UPDATE 2: Water flow not to hurt operations of ALROSA’s Mir mine

(Adds details in two last paragraphs)

MOSCOW, Aug 4 (PRIME) -- Operations at the Mir mine of Russian uncut diamond mining giant ALROSA will not be hurt by a water inflow that trapped 151 miners, a representative of a crisis center at the mine told PRIME on Friday.

“The incident is not serious, it will have no impact on the operation of the mine,” the representative said, adding that there were no injuries or casualties.

According to the Emergency Ministry, the source of the water inflow was a mined-out quarry Mir, which contained about 300,000 square meters of water. As of 1.00 p.m. Moscow time, emergency services got into contact with 130 of the trapped miners, and evacuation was going on, the ministry said in a statement.

A representative of the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee said that investigators are inspecting whether the mine complied with safety rules.
